Celebrating International Women’s Day at Advanté

We are proud to celebrate International Women’s Day by recognising the incredible contributions of women in our workplace. While today we spotlight a few individuals, we want to take a moment to recognise and appreciate all of the incredible women who contribute to the success of Advanté every single day.

What is International Women’s Day?

International Women’s Day (IWD), celebrated annually on March 8, is a global event dedicated to honouring the achievements of women across all fields while advocating for gender equality. This day serves as a reminder of the progress made towards women’s rights and highlights the ongoing efforts to break down barriers and create more inclusive environments across the world.

IWD at Advanté

We recognise the importance of fostering an inclusive and supportive workplace where women can thrive. We are committed to continuing our efforts to empower women at Advanté, in the Construction Industry and beyond.

We asked women across the business to answer a few questions about their personal journeys and the response has been empowering and inspiring.

Celebrating International Women’s Day at Advanté

Jessica Orams – Head of Finance

Jess has consistently demonstrated excellence in her field here at Advanté. Her work within the Finance department has not only driven results but also paved the way for more inclusive opportunities within our workplace.

Jess, what does International Women’s Day mean to you?

It’s a recognition of the progress women have made in the modern age. It’s a day to appreciate the incredible women in our lives whether that’s in the workplace or family. It’s also a great opportunity to inspire the next generation, including my own children, to believe that gender should never be a barrier.

Can you name an achievement you are proud of?

Building a career while raising a family—surviving both school runs and meetings without losing my mind! Balancing work and home life has never been easy, with different challenges at every stage (teenage attitude vs. month-end stress). But I’ve managed to progress in my career while being there for my children, and that’s something I’m really proud of. I wanted to create a stable and fulfilling future for both myself and my family—though my husband would like it noted that he helped too! 😊

Have you had to overcome any challenges?

One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced was redundancy—twice. Leaving a job not by choice can be a huge blow to your confidence, and it’s easy to feel uncertain about the future. Each time, I had to reset and start again. Looking back, those experiences shaped me, making me more adaptable and resilient. They also led me to where I am today in a role I love.

Jenifer Gray – HR Business Partner

Jen’s dedication to welcoming, mentoring and empowering colleagues has made a lasting impact, helping to create a supportive and dynamic work environment for all.

Jen, what does International Women’s Day mean to you?

To me, International Women’s Day is a day to celebrate the strength, achievements, and resilience of women everywhere. It’s a day to reflect on how far we have come while recognising the work still needed to achieve true equality. It serves as a reminder to continue pushing for growth, fairness, and opportunities for all.

Can you name an achievement you are proud of?

One achievement I’m particularly proud of is my role in HR, where I not only support the business but also champion the people who drive its success. Creating a workplace where everyone feels valued, supported, and empowered is something I’m passionate about.

Have you had to overcome any challenges?

Early in my career I worked in a very male-dominated environment, where I often had to work twice as hard to have my voice heard and prove my capabilities. While it was challenging, it strengthened my determination to advocate for inclusivity, fairness and respect in the workplace. Now, I’m proud to work for a female Managing Director who values people based on their contributions and strengths rather than gender, creating an environment where everyone is respected and appreciated.

Susan has been a vital part of our team, bringing expertise and passion to the Finance department. Her dedication has helped shape our success and inspire those around her.

Susan, what does International Women’s Day mean to you?

I think it’s a great way of celebrating the progress that women have made over the past 100 years. It gives me hope for future generations of women and reminds me that we must continue to work hard to preserve and build upon the progress made.

Encouraging my daughter to grow up with expectation she can achieve anything without limitations.

Have you had to overcome any challenges?

None to mention – I have been very fortunate to have worked with supportive leaders throughout my career thus far.
